What is bone cancer?
Bone cancer occurs when cells in the bone grow whether they need to or not.
There are two types of bone cancer:
- Primary bone cancer starts in the bone
- Secondary bone cancer happens when the cancer spreads from the bone to other areas of the body
Bone cancer treatment
Your treatment plan will be determined by your care team based on age, medical history, type and stage of bone cancer, and personal preferences.
Bone cancer treatment options may include:
- Surgery
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
- Pain management
- Clinical trials (when appropriate)
Tumors of the bone and soft tissue are rare. Orthopedic oncology surgeons on the medical staff have the expertise and experience necessary to care for these uncommon tumors.
To decide the best course of treatment for bone cancer, your Baylor Scott & White team will work together with you and answer any questions before, during and after treatment.
