Fellows will be expected to participate in 10 organ procurements
Fellows will also be required to observe/participate in 5 LVAD implats and 3 transplants
Fellows will be expected to have at least 2 abstracts and 1 manuscript during their year-long training, including a quality improvement project
Conferences
The Core Curriculum has been designed to ensure all the core objectives of an Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Heart Transplantation fellowship are covered. The Core Curriculum lecture Series includes 50 lectures covering the following key topics:
- A 5-part lecture series covering cardiogenic shock and temporary support devices
- A 5-part lecture series on infiltrative and hypertrophic cardiomyopathies
- A 10-part lectures series on management of heart failure including reviews of groundbreaking trials
- A 10-part lecture series covering the basics of heart transplantation including evaluation, listing criteria, listing process, surgical management, pre and post-operative management and complications.
- A 5-part lecture series covering immunology and Orthotopic heart transplantation rejection and management
- A 10-part lecture series covering the evaluation and management of durable mechanical circulatory support
- 5 lectures will be reserved for research discussions and miscellaneous topics
This core curriculum will be separate from monthly journal club series and department grand rounds, Cath and echocardiogram conferences.

How to apply
Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and uses the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to electronically accept fellowship applications, letters of recommendations, dean’s letters, transcripts and other credentials directly from the applicant's medical school.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all application materials are completed and properly submitted through ERAS. The Fellowship Selection Committee will review all completed applications and select candidates for interviews. Interviews will be arranged by invitation only.
Application requirements
Applicants must have completed at least three years of internal medicine residency.
In order to be considered for the program, applicants must submit the following materials:
- Personal statement
- CV
- Three letters of recommendation (one must be from your program director)
- ECFMG certificate (if applicable)
- USMLE and/or COMLEX scores
At this time, we are only sponsoring a J1 visa for those who require a visa.
Interviews generally take place in September and October.
