Our aim is to prepare candidates for subspecialty certification and for a career in academic medicine
The Texas A&M College of Medicine – Scott & White Medical Center Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This fellowship adheres to the AUA/ABOG guidelines.
Our three-year fellowship program provides exposure to management of complex benign pelvic surgery beyond incontinence and prolapse.
To maximize the educational experience, we opt to only have two fellows at a time.
As the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas and one of the largest in the United States, Baylor Scott & White serves 41 counties through 52 hospitals, more than 1,200 access points, more than 7,100 active physicians, more than 52,000 team members and the Baylor Scott & White Health Plan.
Curriculum
About the program
Our program offers a broad spectrum of experience in pelvic surgery, with an emphasis on female pelvic medicine and reconstructive pelvic surgery. In addition, fellows are exposed to radical pelvic surgery, complex abdominal surgery and colorectal surgery.
Fellows will gain experience in a multispecialty approach to the evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence and pelvic-floor disorders. Specialists from gastroenterology, urology, neurology, colorectal surgery and physical medicine and rehabilitation combine to form a comprehensive team for evaluation and management.
Our program provides education and experience in the management of:
- Urinary/pelvic floor disorders of incontinence
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Cystocele
- Rectocele
- Enterocele
- Uterine prolapse
- Post-hysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse
Research
There is an active research program with two scientists conducting basic research using animal models and human tissues to investigate questions related to pathophysiology of disorders of the pelvic floor.
Collaboration with other specialties – including urology, colorectal surgery and physical therapy – is an integral part of our patient management and educational program. Fellows will have the opportunity to develop excellent skills in patient care, research and education.
