The Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Baylor College of Medicine (Temple) Pain Fellowship Management is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Our one-year fellowship is an integrated, multidisciplinary pain management fellowship that includes common and advanced interventional techniques as well as interdisciplinary, acute, chronic and cancer pain management on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
We accept two pain management fellows per year.

Curriculum
About the program
Our fellowship functions in a multidisciplinary capacity, integrating the disciplines of neurosurgery, neurology, psychiatry, oncology and physical medicine. Anesthesiology residents in their clinical anesthesia years will rotate through the pain management center along with residents from other medical specialties and medical students from the Texas A&M College of Medicine.
Our pain management program is focused on interventional pain management and includes extensive training in:
- Peripheral nerve blocks
- Neuraxial blocks
- Neurolytic procedures
- Radiofrequency techniques
- Subarachnoid and epidural administration of narcotics and local anesthetics
- Spinal cord stimulation
Rotations
Our faculty members have a wide variety of training backgrounds and special interests in pain management. They employ a balanced mix of medical, psychological and invasive treatment modalities.
Fellows are required to rotate through the following services:
- Chronic pain management (core rotation, nine months)
- Waco pain clinic (one month)
- Killeen pain clinic (one month)
- Temple pain clinic (seven months)
- Neurology (two weeks)
- Cancer pain and palliative medicine (two weeks)
- Psychiatry for the pain specialist (two weeks)
- Physical medicine and rehabilitation (two weeks)
- Acute pain and regional anesthesia (two weeks)
- Neurosurgery (two weeks)
- Anesthesiology for the non-anesthesiologist (as needed)
Conferences
Educational programs within the fellowship include:
- Monthly targeted board review seminars
- Monthly quality assurance conferences
- Quarterly journal clubs
- Annual research conference
- Weekly conferences where institutional experts, residents, and fellows present specific topics relevant to pain management including psychiatry radiology, neurology, rheumatology, oncology and neurosurgery
How to apply
Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and uses the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to electronically accept fellowship applications, letters of recommendations, dean’s letters, transcripts and other credentials directly from the applicant's medical school.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all application materials are completed and properly submitted through ERAS. The Fellowship Selection Committee will review all completed applications and select candidates for interviews. Interviews will be arranged by invitation only.

- Personal statement
- Curriculum vitae
- Three original letters of recommendation
- USMLE score report
- Most recent in-training exam score, if applicable
- Medical school transcript
- Medical school dean’s letter
