Clinical training programs in Dallas
To help address the state’s health care workforce shortage, the Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) College of Medicine and Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, have joined forces to establish a clinical training program in Dallas.
Through the clinical training program in Dallas, students will complete their first 18 months of medical education at the TAMHSC-College of Medicine campus in Bryan-College Station. During their last two-and-a-half years of medical school, students enrolled in the program will complete clinical rotations in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology, and Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center and other clinical affiliates.
Visiting student learning opportunities (VSLO)
Elective rotations are available to fourth-year medical students from outside of the TAMHSC-College of Medicine that are interested in pursuing a residency at Baylor University Medical Center. Interested allopathic or osteopathic students can apply through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities application service (VSLO).
Elective rotations that are typically offered include:
- Dermatology
- Emergency Medicine
- Family Medicine
- General Surgery
- Gynecologic Oncology
- Internal Medicine

Visiting electives may be offered in two or four week rotations from July through January. Students can begin viewing courses and dates being offered, prerequisites, and institutional requirements on VSLO starting in March. Applications will be accepted annually starting April 1st.
VSLO scholarship opportunities
The Department of Medical Education at Baylor University Medical Center is committed to advancing and promoting a training environment emphasizing outreach, advocacy for equitable outcomes in healthcare, and building dynamic teams that serve our communities. As such, the Medical Education Community Engagement Committee was formed. Together we strive to uphold a mutually supportive environment for all trainees, faculty, staff and the patients we care for.
Scholarship overview
Established in 2018 by the General Surgery residency, the goal of the scholarship was to encourage applicants with an interest in serving our unique community and alleviate some of the financial hardship a student might face while on an away rotation. The Scholarship has now expanded to include an additional nine residency programs. Students may apply that are interested in pursuing a career in one of the following specialties: General Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Pathology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, or Dermatology. One scholarship award in an amount up to $1,500 will be available for each specialty to complete a rotation at Baylor University Medical Center between the months of August through January.
How to apply
A downloadable application will be available here by April 1st. Applications are accepted beginning April 1st through June 1st.
